Energy management

The primary consumers of energy in society are industry and transportation. While rail transport is far more energy efficient than road transport, it is still a major energy user in the form of electricity consumption.

CityRail is committed to reducing energy use throughout its operations and is currently progressing a number of energy saving initiatives, which include:

  • Energy conservation at our stations. We are currently investigating improvements that can be made to lighting and ventilation controls and equipment in stations and offices.

  • Energy-smart purchasing. Energy efficiency is taken into account during purchasing of new goods and services.

  • Energy conservation in our offices. We are working to ensure that energy saving features on computers and other equipment are enabled and will be initiating an energy saving education program for staff.
