Day trips with CityRail
DayTripper – your guide to all day train, bus and ferry travel.
Includes fantastic discount offers to Sydney’s attractions!
Shopping expedition? Lots to do in a day? Exploring Sydney’s tourist attractions?
The DayTripper is an all-in-one day ticket that gives
you unlimited travel on CityRail trains within the Sydney
suburban area, unlimited travel on Sydney Buses and
Sydney Ferries. Only $16.00 for an adult and $8.00 for a
child. Purchase your DayTripper from CityRail stations
on the day you want to travel.
The Family fare deal also applies to the DayTripper. When at least one fare paying adult travels with their children or grandchildren, the first child travels for a child fare and the other children travel free.
To make your Sydney trip even better, we’ve
included discounts into some of Sydney’s top
attractions - all you have to do is show your valid and
dated (for that day) DayTripper ticket. These discounts
are only available on the same day as the date shown
on your DayTripper ticket.
Discounts are available at:
Here are some ideas to get you started
• Leave the bustle behind and wander among towering gums and lush tree ferns but be sure to take your sunscreen and water. You’ll find walking tracks near CityRail’s Heathcote, Waterfall and Otford stations.
• Go to China for a day without leaving Sydney! Browse through Asian antique stores and supermarkets, feast on yum-cha and experience the tranquillity of the Chinese Gardens - all in strolling distance. Take a train to Central and walk down George Street turning left into Hay Street.
• Visit Palm Beach - star of TV’s Home and Away - and on the way travel through Sydney’s scenic northern beaches. Palmy, as it’s called, boasts million-dollar houses and a beach that will make you glad you bought your bathers. Take a train to Central Station and the L90 bus from Railway Square.
• For a touch of bohemia, visit inner-city Glebe. Here you’ll find vegetarian restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and a colourful Saturday market not to be missed. Take a train to Central Station and 431/433 buses from Railway Square (or along George Street).
• Need more shopping followed by a swim? Take the 370 bus on Glebe Point Road (opposite the market) and stop off along King Street, Newtown, for more funky boutiques or bag some bargains at the warehouses in Alexandria. Then go on to Coogee beach for a cooling swim.
• Everyone owes it to themselves to swim at, or at least visit, world-famous Bondi. Take a train to Bondi Junction Station and a short ride on the 333 Bendy Bus to Bondi Beach.
Where can I use the DayTripper?
You can use your DayTripper at all stations on the DayTripper map as well as all Sydney Buses (they’re the blue and white ones) and almost all Sydney Ferries.
The DayTripper is bounded by the following CityRail stations - Cowan, Emu Plains, Richmond, Carlingford, Macarthur, Cronulla, Otford and Bondi Junction. DayTrippers cannot be used on the Sydney Explorer Bus, Bondi Explorer Bus, special event buses and the Manly JetCat.
Please note that DayTrippers cannot be used on the Airport Line to get on or off at Green Square, Mascot, Domestic or International stations as an access fee is required (this can be paid when you purchase your DayTripper).
Where can I purchase a DayTripper?
They are available at CityRail stations in the Sydney suburban area, on board Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries, at the Sydney Buses TransitShops, and at the Sydney Ferries ticket offices at Circular Quay & Manly.
Tickets purchased from CityRail stations & on board Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries are valid from the time of purchase. Tickets purchased from TransitShops are valid at the time of first use and can be pre-purchased.
